Reviewed the just completely whatever Ghostface album for Spin. Anybody feeling this one? I can’t help but think of it as something of a response to all the unnecessary hate given to Ghostdini: The Wizard Of Poetry.

There’s a few tracks that are enjoyable, but most of it is forgettable. But he’s been phoning it in for years.
If he gets anything right, it is the level of manic energy in his verses. Stays consistent throughout. That’s not a huge accomplishment per se, but at least the album isn’t a messy hodgepodge.
But yeah, it’s a reaction to the hatred of his R&B album, and that’s just not the right kind of inspiration.

I agree with the comfort food point, Brandon.
It sounds like a less adventurous the pretty toney album to me. I mean that as a complement.
I don’t care what his inspiration is, Ghost is chillin in his lane on this album. Nothing wrong with that.

Thun-
I agree he’s been coasting for awhile (anything after Pretty Toney’s been whatever to me), but I thought ‘Ghostdini’ at least, had some of his best writing in years. I get why most Ghost fans don’t wanna hear Raheem Devaughn and shit, but hey…
FATSO JONES-
I think it kinda veers into elevator music though? Like, whenever I put it on, I pretty much zone it out by track 4 or so?

I agree the album is not as good as the wizard one…He was the only disappointment of saturday’s wutang concert. He did like three verses the entire night and just stood in the background like he didnt want to be there…

Does anybody have any thoughts on the cover?
Does it motivate you to purchase the CD?

Ha, unless it’s some attempt at ultimate “hood” type cover in its cheapness, I don’t know what anyone involved was thinking with this.
Also, good to see a discussion here. I post these short reviews mainly to drop my opinion on something I won’t otherwise discuss, so it’s good everyone’s talking here…

Is a 7 out of 10 elevator music? Do you have control over the final number or did the editors flex their muscles? just curious.
I guess I do see your point. There is a redundancy in the beats and flow that has a sledge hammer like quality that might drive someone to tune out. maybe. I guess I kind of like a frenetic Ghost.

I do not get to choose the rating. Also though, it’s just weird because like, to a general audience (not my blog readers) and in something relatively brief (basically not a thinkpiece or feature), it’s hard to really knock this album. I’d give it a 6 probably.
But there’s nothing wrong with it really and I can’t conceive of anybody hating it, unless you really starting thinking hard about it.

I experimented with taking a look at your blog on my blackberry and the design does not seem to be right. Might wanna check it out on WAP as well as it seems most cell phone layouts are not working with your web page.
