Pitchfork: Joker – “Vision (Let Me Breathe)” [ft. Jessie Ware]

Gonna guess quite a few people out there aren’t exactly feeling this Joker song I wrote about, but maybe I can convince you. It’s a typical Joker production that boldly takes on Top 40 dubstep, “bro-step,” and “post-dubstep” all at once. The vocals sound like the chick from your high school that was “a singer,” but that kinda works here.

  1. Maybe everything on the radio will sound like this in 10 years. You ready?

No, I don’t think I am. I am barely ready for “Hold It Against Me”. If “Vision” were a Ke$ha song, then it could be the real crossover dubstep song in to the American Top 40, even though it is hard to avoid “Bro-Step” in a college setting, the sound is a year two away from dominating the radio (assuming it even does). The video-gameness of “Vision” honestly the only thing that tips me off to this being Joker, because the vocals sound like generic UK singer and the wobbles and drops could be from an increasing number of different songs now. The song is a lot of things at once, and if it were made for this country a lot more people would be hearing all of these topic converging really quickly.

Ha, yeah. I think though in 10 years, everyone’s ears will be programmed for the more Joker-y aspects of this. Dunno, I really fuck with it, but yes, it’s weird and maybe a little bad but I think it’s really good. I think it could be snuck onto the radio now maybe? That bridge-ish hook part, fuck man so good.

Also, my aside was in no way a negative critique of Bro-Step!

Also also, listening right now, I’m hearing how much the intro sounds like Light Asylum’s “Dark Allies”?
